Weight Lifted
In November of 2020 I started up a little side-project called Yesterday’s Newsletter, which was an email publication containing links to recent news items, a visual (photo, map, chart, etc) related to something happening in the news, a number of note (price of something, number of people attending an event, etc), and a “trust click” link to something interesting (and non-news-related) at the bottom.
This project iterated pretty quickly, and in February of 2021 I reduced the number of news links to three so that I could provide a quick summary and bit of context for each of those items, and I attempted a podcast version of the missive that same month, using a rudimentary AI-generated voice-double of myself to host it.
The concept underpinning this project was to provide a “situational awareness” of what’s happening around the world for folks who tend to avoid the news because it stresses them out, it doesn’t seem relevant to their day-to-day, and the like.
Thus, I kept things brief and digestible, and I did away with the idea that “breaking news” was (or should be) a focus—hence the “yesterday’s news” contained in the monicker.
I wanted this to be a lightweight project that supplemented my other projects, especially my more in-depth news analysis podcast, Let’s Know Things, and I changed the name to One Sentence News in March of that same year to better reflect the focus on succinct explanations of what’s happening in the world.
